Bådan Café and Pâtisserie appointed 2019 Year’s Pâtisserie

Of a total 337 participating cafés, Bådan Café & Pâtisserie was selected Best Pâtisserie in Sweden 2019 by White Guide, the leading restaurant guide in the Nordic countries.

Bådan Café and Pâtisserie is described as follows:

”A café which in an extraordinary way presents a broad selection of pastries, cakes and sandwiches made from the best ingredients as a base – where tradition and innovation weighs high combined with the level of coffee presentations, service, environment and ambiance gives a total experience worth returning to”.

The motivation is:

”To be able to produce pastries in an admirable way that visually holds the same artistic class as the art hall itself, to follow the local seasonal changes and a tasteful reminder of the constantly present archipelago environment, this to many, many hundreds of people, daily. Wow!”

– It is truly fantastic to receive this acknowledgement and the whole pastry team of Artipelag have worked hard to get to this level. Artipelag is a very inspiring workplace and I really feel we stepped up another notch when we started collaborating with the arts department. To each exhibition, we create a new signature pastry with inspiration and starting point in the artist’s works, says Annie Hesselstad, head pastry chef Artipelag.

Artipelag has been voted best Hospitality Industry on Värmdö 2019, arranged by Visit Värmdö. The award was announced during an event at the Bistro Gustavsberg on Wednesday October 2nd.

The other two nominees were Bistro Sågen and Svartsö Logi. The winner was announced in a voting where the general public was encouraged to vote.

Bådan Café & Patisserîe in White Guide 2019

We are pleased that Bådan Café & Patisserîe is in this year´s edition of White Guide, which annually reviews Sweden´s restaurants and cafés.

“If the main purpose of visiting Artipelag is to have coffee? Yes! The new Pastry Chef at the art gallery, Annie Hesselstad, has raised the ambitions at the sweet counter to a level corresponding to everything else of beauty there is to see here. With the small advantage that everything is edible. Here you find pastries resembling desserts in season topped with or flavoured with wild-picked herbs or flowers, “fika” classics like carrot cake and brownies that have been jacked up several notches, classic buns, Danish pastries and their own take on croissants. The coffee is made by baristas at the coffee counter, roasted by Kersh Roasters in nearby Gustavsberg, the apple juice is local and the seating area in a fabulous archipelago environment – lovely.“

Organic Sloe Flavoured Beer

Together with the nearby Värmdö Brewery, Artipelag has developed a brand new beer flavour. Let us introduce Artipelag Organic Lager, with a taste of sloe.

The beer, which is a lager, contains handpicked sloes from Artipelag’s surroundings, and the juice from the berries has been added to the beer. Artipelag’s sommelier Tim Good describes the beer as light, flowery, sweet and fresh. Tim has been involved in the process, and has also handpicked the sloe berries.
– The beer should be enjoyed at 8–10°C, in peace and quiet, Tim says.

Sloes – sticky and uneatable berries

Brewing beer may take anything from four weeks up to half a year or even several years. It all depends on what kind of beer and which ingredients the beer will contain. The sloes for Artipelag’s beer are picked in late autumn. The sloe bushes grow in Artipelag’s surrounding coastal landscape and belong to the Rose family, which can be recognized by their sharp thorns and dense thickets. They bloom with beautiful little white flowers from May to June. In September, the berries are ready to be picked, but unfortunately they do not taste very good when eating them raw. The taste comes best forth when the berries are boiled.

The sloe flavoured Artipelag Organic Lager is sold exclusively at Artipelag Restaurant and at Bådan Café & Pâtisserie. You are welcome to try it!

Locally Produced Beer

Värmdö Brewery was founded by a group of childhood friends in 2012. Located at Säbyviken on Ingarö in the Stockholm archipelago, it is a genuine archipelago brewery. The facility also houses an apple cider mill.
