Pre-book your ticket for this spring’s major fashion exhibition, Lars Wallin Atelier, opening at Artipelag on March 7. Lars Wallin has established himself as one of Sweden’s foremost fashion designers for over three decades. His elegant design language, sense of glamour, and meticulous attention to detail have made him a leading voice in Nordic couture.

Visitors are invited into Wallin’s creative world, offering an intimate glimpse into the designer’s daily life in the atelier, revealing personal stories about his sources of inspiration, encounters with clients, and collaborations with highly skilled tailors who transform his visions into dreamlike creations. Curated by Lars Wallin himself, the exhibition features over 140 unique, handmade couture dresses, bridal gowns, and stage costumes from the designer’s personal archive, alongside loans from private clients’ wardrobes, many of which have never been shown to the public before.

February 1, marks the premiere of Bådan Café & Pâtisserie’s delicious semlor, a popular Swedish pastry consisting of a wheat bun with almond filling and whipped cream.

The wheat bun is made with organic flour and delicately flavoured with coarsely ground cardamom. The almond paste is enriched with roasted almonds, extra cardamom, and a hint of konjac, giving it a unique character. Topped with whipped cream and a lid dusted with powdered sugar, the result is everything one could wish for in a classic Swedish semla.

Welcome to the premiere of Artipelag’s much-loved semla on February 1!

Join us on a guided tour to explore the fascinating journey of how Artipelag evolved from a vision into reality.

Artipelag was established on the initiative of Lillemor and Björn Jakobson, founders of the well-known company BabyBjörn. The idea behind Artipelag was to create a destination where various experiences within art and culture could interact, with the archipelago being present in everything.

During the tour, you will hear the story of how a love for the archipelago and art shaped Artipelag and learn about architect Johan Nyrén and the building that became his final masterpiece, as well as selected artworks from our permanent outdoor exhibition, Sculpture in Nature.

Over the past 35 years, Lars Wallin has established himself as one of Sweden’s foremost masters of couture. Celebrities, performers, and royalty have worn his exquisite designs, gracing events from Nobel banquets to television galas and the Eurovision Song Contest. With the exhibition, Lars Wallin – Fashion Stories, his creations have toured museums and art galleries across Sweden, including a successful showing at Artipelag in 2016. To celebrate his brand’s 35th anniversary, Lars Wallin returns to Artipelag with the new exhibition Lars Wallin Atelier – 35 Years of Fashion Stories, opening on 7 March 2025.

Lars Wallin Atelier delves into the artisanal journey behind couture, from sketches, pattern construction, and cutting to the first toile fitting on the eventual wearer. In his own words, Wallin shares insights from his decades in the fashion world. Visitors will gain a rare glimpse into the craftsmanship behind embroidery, featherwork, and the creation of unique fabrics inspired by the art world, as well as the expertise of skilled tailors who bring Wallin’s dream dresses to life. Curated by Lars Wallin himself, the exhibition will showcase over 100 couture dresses, bridal gowns, and stage costumes, many of which have never been displayed to the public.

– Returning to Artipelag and creating this personal anniversary exhibition feels amazing. With so much darkness and stress in the world today, it feels wonderful to share my story of craftsmanship, inspire dreams, and contribute to making the world a little more beautiful, says Lars Wallin.

Lars Wallin studied at Beckmans College of Design from 1987 to 1990. Immediately after graduating, he opened his first atelier on Västmannagatan in Stockholm. Five years later, Wallin received the prestigious Guldknappen Award from Damernas Värld magazine. In 2000, he relocated his studio to Östermalm, where he collaborated with jewellery designer Lisen Stibeck. Over the years, Wallin has taken on numerous couture assignments for everyday wear, festive occasions, stage performances, and galas. In spring 2022, Wallin moved his couture business to the department store Nordiska Kompaniet (NK) in Stockholm and launched NK Atelier, a tailoring service within NK. That same year, he was honoured with Stockholm Fashion District’s Encouragement for Action award in the category of Sustainable Identity.

A press release and invitation to the press preview will be issued in early 2025.
