HERE/NOW: A PHYSICAL ENCOUNTER IN TIME AND SPACE

VENUE: Artipelag Art Gallery, Värmdö

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION: Barnett Newman’s expression “here and now” from his essay The Sublime is Now (1948) has been employed in a number of contexts in order to accentuate a sense of presence in the experience of art. For the exhibition at Artipelag, ten artists have been invited to create site-specific artworks in relation to the architecture of the exhibition space. It is in the spatial encounter between artwork and viewer that a dialogue arises, which Barnett Newman compared to a conversation between two persons.
CATALOGUE: In accordance with the exhibition’s site-specific character, the catalogue will be published during the course of the exhibition when the works have been photographed on site.
DIGITAL MATERIAL: In conjunction with the exhibition, the participating artists will be presented in brief video portraits.
PRESS PREVIEW: Welcome to the press preview on Thursday 16 October, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.
The artists will be present and a light lunch will be served.
TRANSPORTATION: A free Artipelag bus leaves Vasagatan outside the Central Station at 10:30 am for Artipelag.
From Artipelag: 1:30 pm back to Vasagatan.
By car from Stockholm: The drive from central Stockholm takes approx. 20 minutes. Take road 222 towards Gustavsberg and follow the signs.
