About the Exhibition

The exhibition Lars Wallin Atelier – 35 Years of Fashion Stories invites visitors into Wallin’s universe. Stepping into his world offers an intimate glimpse into the designer’s daily life in the atelier, revealing personal stories about his sources of inspiration, encounters with clients, and collaborations with highly skilled tailors who, with years of experience, transform his visions into dreamlike creations.

The exhibition offers a rare insight into the creative process. Wallin shares in detail the various stages of craftsmanship – from the tools and machines used to the meticulous handling of delicate beaded fabrics that must be sewn entirely by hand.

Visitors are taken on a journey across the world, discovering fascinating stories from the world of fashion – from visits to ateliers in Paris to the tale of a unique coat adorned with 80 metres of swan down, completed just hours before it was due to be showcased on the catwalk.

In an era of quick fixes, it feels more important than ever to highlight the craft I love – couture. The passion for exquisite fabrics, timeless design, and details that require time to perfect. Celebrating my 35 years as a designer with this anniversary exhibition at Artipelag is truly special. This is my most personal exhibition, where visitors are invited to follow me on the creative journey inside the atelier. Today, more than ever, it feels important to contribute to making the world a little more beautiful, says designer Lars Wallin.

Curated by Lars Wallin himself, the exhibition features over 140 unique, handmade couture dresses, bridal gowns, and stage costumes from the designer’s personal archive, alongside loans from private clients’ wardrobes, many of which have never been shown to the public before.

About Lars Wallin

Lars Wallin was born on August 13 1965, in Västerås, Sweden.

He studied at Beckmans College of Design from 1987 to 1990 and established his first atelier on Västmannagatan in Stockholm in the autumn following his graduation. Five years later, Wallin was awarded the prestigious Guldknappen prize by Damernas Värld.

In the spring of 2022, Wallin moved his couture business to Nordiska Kompaniet and simultaneously launched NK Atelier, a tailoring and alterations studio within the Stockholm department store. That same year, he received NK’s honorary award at the NK Gala and the Encouragement for Action prize in the Sustainable Identity category from the Stockholm Fashion District.

With a long-standing career and fearless creativity, Wallin continues to make his mark on the fashion world—now celebrated in a highly personal anniversary exhibition at Artipelag: Lars Wallin Atelier – 35 Years of Fashion Stories.
