About the experience

Lutenist Jonas Nordberg and choreographer Kenneth Kvarnström first met 13 years ago and have since collaborated closely on various dance performances, with Jonas participating as both musician and dancer. Most recently, they were seen at Orionteatern in the critically acclaimed performance STOLEN. Now, they come to Artipelag with a mix of lute solos, dance solos, conversations, and duets that move between the exhibition halls and relate to the artworks in various ways. The performance features music by Silvius Leopold Weiss and Robert de Visée for baroque lute and theorbo.

Participants

Kenneth Kvarnström is a prominent choreographer in contemporary dance and has a leading role in Swedish and Finnish dance scenes. He has founded his own company and has been the artistic director of several significant dance institutions in Helsinki and Stockholm. Kvarnström has a diverse repertoire and has created dance works that have been internationally acclaimed. He focuses on exploring the subconscious and the cross-fertilization of dance with visual art and music. His contributions to the art of dance have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Swedish Theatre Critics’ Dance Prize and the Pro Finlandia Medal.

Jonas Nordberg is a lutenist who masters a vast repertoire of string instruments from the 16th to the 18th century. After studying at the Mozarteum University Salzburg and the Royal College of Music Stockholm, he has performed in over 25 countries with solo concerts, chamber music, stage performances, and larger ensembles.
Jonas Nordberg made a striking entrance into the world of recording artists in 2015 with his debut album, Music by de Visée, Weiss & Dufaut, released on Eudora Records. This album, which received international acclaim, was just the beginning of his successful journey. He has since shared the stage with renowned singers like Ruby Hughes and musicians like viol player Liam Byrne, and collaborated with esteemed ensembles such as Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
