about the activity
As part of the exhibition INNER CHILD – Playing with Design, Artipelag invites you to a creative woodcarving workshop with cabinetmaker and woodcarver Moa Brännström Ott. Discover the basics of whittling and the joy of transforming a piece of wood into something of your own.
During the workshop, we will explore wood, form and function. Using a knife as our tool, we will work with the material and let the shape gradually emerge. Perhaps you will make a spoon, a butter knife or something entirely different.
Inspired by INNER CHILD, the workshop is as much about daring to experiment, play and follow your curiosity as it is about craftsmanship. What gives an object its character? Can a shape have a personality of its own? And what happens when we let go of preconceived ideas about how something should look?
No previous experience is required. Moa Brännström Ott will guide you through the process, from a simple piece of wood to an object with your own personal touch.
Moa Brännström Ott is a cabinetmaker who graduated in furniture making from Capellagården. She is the author of the books Trä – snickerihandbok för inredning och odling (2017) and Tälja köksredskap (2020).
