Fredrik Wretman

In the exhibition I C 3 D 2 (it's all in your head) Fredrik Wretman commands the space. A row of windows opens the architecture towards light and the changes in the natural landscape. A sea of plinths appears as a barrier against the open area. This static repetition contrasts with the dynamic sculptures that balance, hover and play. As so often in his artistic practice, Wretman unfolds spatial universes, on both a small and monumental scale. These human bronze figures suggest Greco-Roman and later periods in art history and contemporary times.

In the course of his long career, Fredrik Wretman has established a reputation as one of Sweden's most seminal postmodernists. He has exhibited in both Sweden and internationally since 1985 and is represented in institutions such as Moderna Museet (Stockholm), Göteborgs Konstmuseum, Malmö Konstmuseum and Statens konstråd (Stockholm). His public works of art are often monumental in scale and installed in prominent places around Sweden. They include Bodhi (2004), in Viskan, Borås, and Body & Soul (2002) in front of the main entrance of the Södersjukhuset hospital in Stockholm.

Fredrik Wretman was born in Stockholm in 1953 and currently works in Stockholm and Chiang Mai in Thailand.

The exhibition is produced by the artist in dialogue with Artipelag's art department and is shown alongside Apichaya Wanthiang’s solo exhibition, which takes place during the same period.
