Opening Weekend for Lars Wallin – Fashion Stories

Saturday and Sunday, November 5th and 6th, is the first weekend of the Lars Wallin – Fashion Stories exhibition at Artipelag. Lars Wallin himself will be making an introduction of the exhibition on Saturday at 2 pm to mark the opening. All weekend, we will have a free bus running from Vasagatan in Stockholm to Artipelag and in the Artipelag Restaurant we will be serving a special Lars Wallin menu.

Our chef Stefan Pernemar has used Lars Wallin’s colours and shapes as inspiration when creating the dishes included on the Lars Wallin menu so the flavours and drinks have a truly exclusive and elegant feel. The meal ends with a Wallin-inspired dessert signed by Fredrik Otterberg, who in addition to being the head pastry chef at Artipelag is also an active member of the Swedish Pastry Chef National Team.

For your enjoyment, our sommelier Tim Good has put together a suitable wine package that starts with a lovely aperitif.

To book a table in Artipelag Restaurant please contact restaurang@artipelag.se or call +46 (0)8-570 130 50 (weekdays 9 am to 5 pm).

Welcome to a weekend of play and creative adventure when Tillitsverket’s (The Trust Agency) experience exhibition Create, Play, Listen premieres at Artipelag! The exhibition has been created to appeal to playful, creative people and will provide insight for the mind and body. Opportunities abound for fun and exciting moments in the world of play. An excellent chance for adults to further understand the creative significance playtime has for human well-being.

Trust is an important key for sustainable social development. For three years, Tillitsverket – with support from the Swedish Inheritance Fund – has provided the foundation for deepening insights and experiences between educators, governments, unaccompanied minors, entrepreneurs, parents, researchers, officials, adults, and children of all ages. Create, Play, Listen is an experience exhibition – a celebration of human creativity and an opportunity to further inspire more people to believe in play, creativity, and creative collaboration for positive social development.

Open to all ages from small children to adults – everyone can take part in our village. Spend the day and try a bit of everything!

Come and visit the beautiful fairy tale castle in an enchanted world where everything is possible. Listen and play. Join a fairy dance!

If you are looking for adventure, there is something just for you! The Adventure Game where anything can happen is about to begin! Shall we make our way to the land of imagination, forests and mountains?

Who’s up for a visit to the theatre’s costume closet? And what will happen in the ring? A fashion show or a circus? Step right up and find out!

We might build a boat. Or run an obstacle course where courage and determination are needed. There is something for both children and adults to enjoy – Create, Play, Listen is a world where everything is possible!

Fairy Tale Playhouse

Listen to stories! Be amazed and inspired! Let the tale continue into play and games.

Adventure Trails

Go on adventures in the fantasy world. A game captain will lead us through the woods, across the meadow, and into a cave. For adults and children alike.

Theatre

In our well-stocked wardrobe, you can dress up in costumes and fancy clothes. Make your debut as a beautiful lady, a mysterious spy, or perhaps a circus acrobat!

Art House

By way of colour and form, collages or poems, help to cover the white paper and create something beautiful.

Construction Zone

Experiment with hammer, saw, and other carpentry tools. By joining forces, we can create an all-is-possible construction. What will it be? A ship, a hut or a castle?

Balance Track

Practice your courage and your determination by balancing over logs and rope.

Adults are welcome even without children. Tillitsverket’s exhibition is filled with inspiration, knowledge, and research about play and the importance of creation to mankind. Also available is Tillitsstjärnan – a workshop focused on the difficult concept of trust. In connection with the exhibition, the documentary Den Lekande Människan will be shown.

Check back on artipelag.se and/or www.tillitsverket.se for a detailed program later in October. Admission is 100 SEK, whether you come as an individual or as an entire family. Payment is on the day, at Artipelag.

In conjunction with that The Legacy of Andy Warhol is nearing its end, we auction off parts of the exhibition’s commercial objects. The auction will last between September 9–25:th and is carried out online at Tradera.

Starting on November 4th, Artipelag will be bringing a bit of light to the winter darkness with an exhibition by Lars Wallin entitled “Fashion Stories”. Nearly 200 of the famous fashion designer’s stunning creations will be on display and visitors will be able to follow the creative process all the way from idea to sketch and finally to couture completion. This exhibition at Artipelag will be a tribute to Lars Wallin’s 25 years as a designer and will include many of his latest dresses and costumes that have never been seen before.

Lars Wallin – Fashion Stories showcases unique creations in exclusive materials from throughout Wallin’s entire career as a fashion designer. The exhibition highlights one of the few Swedish designers who works with fashion on a high artistic level with a focus on craftsmanship and quality.

Lars Wallin is best known for his glamourous party and wedding dresses in classic designs – with attitude (Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine of Sweden both wore his creations at a Nobel Prize banquet)! Throughout his career, Wallin has provided designs for Loreen, The Royal Swedish Opera, Carola, Jill Johnson and Lena PH – among others. Spring 2016’s Eurovision Final saw TV host Petra Mede dressed in a Lars Wallin creation!

The exhibition is based around 4 themes – crafts, fashion, bridal, and stage. Lars Wallin has personally selected works that mean a lot to him and in addition to ready-made garments, visitors can see sketches, toiles, jewellery, and even feel the fabrics. The idea behind this interaction is to create an understanding of the craft and design process, and to provide an insight into the work done within the studio.
“To be able to celebrate Lars Wallin’s 25 years as a designer at Artipelag is a huge honour. Several of our exhibitions have had an element of fashion, but this is the first time we will be showing a streamlined fashion exhibition. I look forward to presenting the craft in a new way and filling our art gallery with beautiful creations. We aim to combine fashion and design with our own unique environment and to provide visitors with a total aesthetic experience” – Riita Östberg, CEO of Artipelag.

Lars hopes that the exhibition will tickle the visitor’s imagination, inspire others to dare to express themselves, and to encourage timeless and durable fashion design.

Lars Wallin – Fashion Stories premiered at Prince Eugene’s Waldemarsudde in 2011 and has since toured many museums and art galleries throughout Sweden. Now the tour has finally returned to Stockholm and will be displayed at Artipelag from November 4, 2016 until March 12, 2017.

“Returning the exhibition to Stockholm after 5 years away is a great way to close the circle. I hope many new visitors will attend, as well as past attendees – the exhibition now has many new features previously unseen that would make a second viewing well worth it!” – Lars Wallin.

Lars Wallin was born in 1965 in Västerås. His career gained significant momentum in the mid-90’s when, after completion of training at the Beckmans Institute of Design in Stockholm, it was not long before Lars received the 1995 Women’s World Gold Medal Award. From there, Lars’ work broadened to include jewellery, menswear, and collaborations with different actors. Since the beginning, his drive and inspiration has been to combine French art and aesthetics with American commercialism and frivolity.
